Chapter 20 - youn invasion

Describe the youn invasion through the use of imagery (what does Loung see, smell, taste, hear and feel)? Even if Loung does not give us all of the details, please use your knowledge of Loung and the story.

  1. I'm not sure if my first one went through because I forgot to do the confirmation.
I think Loung smells ash and smoke. I think Loung hears the girls cries for help and feels sympathy for her.

  2. I think Loung is afraid and she smells ash and burnt. She sees and hears girls crying and screaming. She probably tasted dirt and blood too.

  3. In this chapter, I praised Kim because he is the temporary leader for the family of three. He was able to save his two sisters, take them to a safe area, feed them, and protect them. At 13, especially through an invasion, this isn't easy. I think at this point, Loung is very scared. She's in the midst of bullets, bombs and possibly tanks. She over hears conversations about safety precautions and follows them i.e. moving to the middle of the crowd to be able to know when tanks are coming. I would do the same thing !

  4. Loung definitely becomes disoriented by what is happening. She hears crying, screaming and she probably tastes dirt and smoke from explosions. There is chaos and Loung feels confused and afraid for her life.

  9. i think that Loung is feeling anxius because she wants to know if Kim and Chou are ok. I think she is also guty because she let that girl die in the house. She was realived that Kim and Chou are ok. These are all the things she was feeling when the Youn invaded.

  13. Loung most likely hears many people crying and shrieking for help. She probably feels scared for whats to come, and hopeless to know she didn't do anything to help.

  15. Loung has to hear weeping and yelling because of all the terror that has occurred. Loung, Chou, and Kim are very brave because they were so young and they had to deal with everything that was happening to each one of them. When I think about it, I don't know what I would do if I were in their place. Loung has to witness bombs and rockets exploding, flames, blood, and deceased bodies. I agree with Gerald because she probably feels really guilty, after leaving the girl in the hut left alone, to die. Loung wanted to help, but she was terrified. Loung feels distressed because she doesn't know if Chou and Kim are alive. Finally when she runs into Kim and Chou, she's overly happy that she found them!

  16. In the youn invasion I think what they first felt was ready, they ready to help some people and save some life's. They might have saw many people; sick, young, died. They might have saw burned huts and some youn might have died and they most of all they saw the Khmer Rouge soldier.

  17. Loung probably tasted the ashes and smoke from the explosions. She also probably heard the screams and yells from girls around her. She might have been very disoriented because everything around her was being destroyed by the bombs.
