Chapter 14 - ma's little monkey

Would you expect a member of your family to steal food and get beat for his/her actions if your family was starving?

    i think that Ma should have stolen for the family because at 12 Kim can not have that much responcibility as to steal and risk getting cought and mabe killed. I thimk that the mother should have had that responcibility.

    I don't think that I would expect anyone to do it. I would want someone to and it would be very helpful but that's not something I want any of my family members to go through. If anyone was to steal I think Kim was the right person for the job. I understand what Gerald was trying to say. But if they had decided to kill her instead of just beating her, who would the kids have left?

    Since Kim is the man of the house (for now), he has to take care of his family. He didn't want his family to suffer, which urged him to steal food for them. The soldiers didn't catch him stealing food for a few weeks, but he was going to get caught at some point. I felt devastated when the soldiers caught him stealing because they beat him repeatedly just because he was attempting to get food for his family. At the same time, I felt really happy because they gave him another chance and didn't kill him. Honestly, if one of my family members had to risk their life to support us with food, I wouldn't let them go so they could harm their life. I would rather starve than lose a loved one.

    i think that it was brave for kim to stole for the family but also foolish knowing the risk and know that his mom wouldn't have been able to handle lost aonther child

    I would never want someone to have to risk their life for their family but if it needed to be done i to believe that it should be the man of the house should do it, after all they are supposed to make sure the family is safe.

    Wow ; is a big dcition because maybe you could get cought ,
    but your familiy is having hunger and need food to survive too.
    maybe i look for another way of having food.

    I wont want my children to steal food for the family. I think it's the responsibility of the parents , which at this point is just Ma. She should have gone herself and provide for her family without risking her children.

    I woulden't expect any member of my family members to steal food for the family if the penalty for it its getting beat up or even death. If my family was starving it would just be a sad and slow death.
