Chapter 21 - foster family

Predict Loung's future. Do think the foster family arrangement will be positive for Loung?

  1. I know this wasn't quite the question but I feel sooo bad for Loung! She almost got raped which is one of the scariest things anyone could face. I felt even worse that she couldn't tell the step-mother because she was already on bad terms with her. I think that the foster family arrangement will not be positive for Loung. It seems she has gotten on the wrong foot with almost everyone. I felt sorry for her when she found out how her only friend Paof {please excuse my spelling} felt about her.

However it's better than Loung being on her own.

  2. At this point, I knew the foster family would not work out. Loung knows and wants only one family, and that's hers. The only reason she put up with the other family's orders is for protection. Loung is a tough little cookie, but she will use her childish ways to keep the family together. She is the glue. I felt bad for her because these people continued to put her down and say she'll become a hooker. But towards the end of the chapter, I realized how self motivated she is- even for 8 and that she will be fine.

  3. At first I thought it would be good for her because she had food and someone who took care of her. After reading the whole chapter, I don't think the foster family arrangement will be positive for Loung especially because of her step-mom. She's trying to bring her down by saying she's never going to be anything in her life.

  4. I agree with you, Kayla. It was probably so scary for Loung. All that she went through, now she has to deal with this, too!

  5. i agree with kayla how she almost got raped and how living with the family changed things. The way the mother treated them and what she did with their ma silk shirt.

  6. In my opinion, the foster arrangement is going to be a negative impact for Loung. Even though they give shelter and food, some of the family members in the foster family are mean. The father is nice, but the mother treats Loung, Chou, and Kim atrociously. When Loung first saw Paof, she thought he was going to be a nice kid, but he is forceful because he liked Loung. Loung doesn't find him attractive, she considers him as a brother, so it's pretty awkward for her. Even though half of the family is mean, it's better than nothing. She has Chou and Kim which makes it a little easier. She'll get through.

*I agree with Kayla. It is disgusting to think that the Youn soldier sexually harassed her. SHE'S 8!! She was asking for help and instead, he tried to rape her. That was disturbing and I felt extremely bad for her. =\ *

  8. I think that it will not be a positive arrangement for Loung to be in foster care becuase realizing her family is gone and she do not want another family. She wants her own.Loung should just stick it out and be a strong girl that her father always wanted her to be

  9. I don't think this foster family that took in Loung, Chou and Kim is going to work. I think the foster family is going to make them to everything they want for them and not treat them fairly.

  10. No I do not think the foster family will be positive for Luong because she is gonna miss her family, and shes had such a traumatic childhood that if she tries to go into an innocent home, she is going to have alot of mental breakdowns.

  11. I don't think the foster family will be a positive thing in Loung's life because the step mother already doesn't like her, she almost got raped and it surprised me while reading this chapter. Its so sad that a young girl was exposed to such filthy behavior by a grown man who had no heart for a little girl! I really believe that there is a better family out there for Loung and her siblings. After going through so much as a child she really doesn't need a mean step mother to break her down even more.

  12. I think it wont work out positively based on the fact that the relationship with her foster mother, and a close encounter of rape. It's a relief that she wasn't really raped, but it's a burden to bear if you can't talk to someone about that and let everything out. Though I have to say it definitely beats caring for them and having them ripped away from her like her parents.

  13. I think having a foster family is really hard to deal with because you dont have your real parents and it probably feels really sad.

  14. i don't think that living with a foster family is a positive thing because her foster mother don't like her also she almost got raped. Also having foster parent is hard because you don't know who the people are or how they might

  15. When ever you hear foster family it's a sad thought that comes to mind. Does anyone ever want to know that they're family didn't want them, or they never knew they're family, or they got split from there family. It's sad thoughts that come to my minds when I hear foster family

  18. I think that The new Foster family will treat Loung ok..but they will take her for advantage and make her do so much work

  19. Its hard to get over of being sexually harrassed you will always remember that day its really like scare in your skin that would not come out. Yet the positive thing about is Loung defended herself and she showed bravery and thats what really matters.

  20. It's not really something that can be guessed without knowing the people that are going to be her foster parents. But i think that after all she's been through they can't be that bad. I mean compared to the Khmer Rouge even if they aren't the nicest there better.

  21. I don't believe the foster care arrangement will be something beneficial for Loung.
Considering her family's not really in the picture, Loung doesn't really want any other family but her own.
When going in to foster care, you have no idea what you're going into and how the family may treat you.
And Loung doesnt exactly get along with the step-mother.
But even after all that, Loung still shows how determined and brave she is.

  22. I belive the foster will be something new to handle but its like going to somones else's family and you dont even know how they might accept you scary feeling.

  23. You would think it would be a good thing because it was the man and boy she knew and the father so happy and nice to them at their first meeting but the family was so mean and the boy try to kiss her and told her no one would listen to her if she told anyone. So I Predict that the foster family will not be a good thing for her.

Though her first foster family was a total nightmare I think that the new one will be a much more positive thing for her.

  25. I think the foster family will not work out. She's been through so much already and she doesn't know who to trust. She's been raped, her other foster family was cruel to her and she was basically a slave to them. So I think this wont be good for Loung.

  26. At first I thought the foster family would be good to her, but then after reading more of this chapter I realized that it was something negative that happened to her.

  27. I think that since she was in the camp, a foster family is better. It's better because even though their not nice they ate better than the kehmer rouge

I think it's sad that she went to a foster home but I think it's better than the Khmer rouge camps

  29. i think that the foster home people would take advantage of them because they have no one to deffend them. They have no choice even thought in my opinion is better than khmer rouge camps

  30. I thought this family would be ok because she knew them. The mom is so mean though. She probably feels better with a family because they've lost ther mom and dad before.
